Toyota Driver's Seat: Ethical dilemmas

I had the opportunity to cover a speech by Marianne Jennings, a professor emeritus at Arizona State University who specializes in business ethics. She had a lot of great things to say, which sometimes makes it difficult to pare down, but I think I captured the essence of her presentation.

Sports List: 5 Prospects In Dodgers Camp

Another of my sports lists for CBSLA, and one that let me expand on knowledge gained at Rancho games the past few seasons, as well as use a photo when I could not find one of Scott Schlber.

Beach Reporter: Saving Their Place In Time

One of my favorite recent stories is this one, which concerns a survey of historic homes in Manhattan Beach.

It stemmed from concern by one of the ladies conducting the work that residents might think something nefarious was going on when they spotted someone in their neighborhood with a clipboard. But it turned into an interesting history lesson.

Sports List: What was that score again?

More fun with numbers in my latest sports list for CBSLA.com.

With the advent of the 2-point conversion in NFL football, there are a bunch of final scores being recorded for the first time. Just this year, there have been five. And there are a lot more combinations still out there, too.

Yeah, it's kind of a weird list, but I like my numbers.

Sports List: At least they won once

Here's some fun with the number 15.

No, we're not talking about tennis and its inflated scoring system. Rather, my latest sports list for CBSLA.com, which looks at nine NFL teams that finished the season 1-15. Sure, the Lions posted an 0-16 mark, but what can you say about that?

When a team goes 1-15, there is that one Sunday (or Monday, or Thursday, or late-season Saturday) that there was cause for celebration. Because you got a win, and likely did not hurt your chances for getting the No. 1 draft pick.

So here is my ode to those 1-15 teams, which the Raiders have avoided...at least this year.

Sports List: Top 25 matchups of UCLA and USC

It's always a big deal when UCLA and USC hit the football field, but sometimes it is a bigger deal for college football in general.

In 2014, both teams were in the Top 25 when they met, something that has happened a handful of times in recent years. Enough to make an interesting sports list, as it turns out:

Dailty Breeze: Fighting on with the Stroykes

This was a very inspirational story for me to write.

Cailin Stroyke was diagnosed with epilepsy, but because doctor's could isolate the area of her brain where the seizures were taking place, they were able to cure her with surgery. That's made her in demand as people want to find out more about epilepsy and raising funds for research. But she also had a bigger task -- building a bridge between UCLA and USC.

A different version of this story first ran in The Beach Reporter.
